Nathalie Domingue struts her stuff for best catwalk award
SHE is not a professional top model but she surely struts her stuff well on the catwalk. Seychellois Nathalie Domingue caught the eyes of the judges to pick up an award at the recent 16th Miss Top Model of the World pageant in the Estrel Ballroom in Berlin, Germany.
A history teacher by profession, Domingue won one of the four subtitle awards – the best catwalk.
“I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved,” Domingue told Seychelles Nation in an interview earlier this week.
“I was so happy when they called my name for the best catwalk award.
“For me, modelling is just a hobby and I competed against top professional models in Berlin. They all looked great on the catwalk.
“This is what makes winning the award sweeter. It’s a big achievement for me,” added the 22-year-old.
Domingue, who also plays volleyball for first division team Cascade, started modelling in 2006 with Telly’s Modelling Agency but is not sure if she can continue to strut her 1.74m tall body on the catwalk on a regular basis.
“I’m quite busy as a teacher and I want to pursue my studies,” she added.
After her good showing in Berlin, Domingue, who finished as second princess behind Miss Seychelles Islands 2008 Elena Angione and first princess Sophia Marie, has been invited to take part in the Miss Malaika contest in the United Kingdom in October. But she is not sure of competing.
“All will depend on sponsorship, and whether the Miss Seychelles Islands Beauty Pageant organising committee decides that I should compete,” said Domingue.
She took the opportunity to thank the Miss Seychelles Islands Beauty Pageant organising committee and all sponsors who helped make her trip to Berlin a success.
Domingue is the elder sister of Miss Seychelles Islands 2007, Solana Domingue.
She is the third local beauty queen to represent Seychelles in international pageants.
Reigning Miss Seychelles Islands Angione competed at the Miss World pageant in Johannesburg, South Africa, last December, and first princess Marie from Praslin took part in the Miss Intercontinental pageant in Poland last October.
She won the Queen of Africa award – a first title for Seychelles in an international beauty pageant.
Forty-one contestants took part in the Top Model pageant and during their stay they visited the historical city of Dresden, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and enjoyed a stroll along the famous Ku’damm, the number one shopping street in the world.
The Miss Top Model of the World is an international modelling contest that was founded in 1988 and has already taken its place on the international beauty calendar.
Pretty Brazilian model Debora Moura Lyra, 19, won the Miss Top Model of the World title for a cash prize of US $10,000, a voucher worth US $10,000 from Lacomed – a top cosmetics clinic – a trip to Spain (Mallorca) with a photo and video shoot on a yacht at one of the most beautiful places on the island. She also got a contract with WBO for the year of her reign.
Stunning 23-year-old American Yolimar Sanchez was the first runner-up and she received US $3,000 and a trip to Spain.
The second runner-up was Bulgarian Diana Ivancheva, who got US $1,000.
The other three sub-title awards were won by Colombian Stephanie Garces (best body award), Belarusian Yuliya Sindeeva (photogenic award) and Australian Vanessa Portelli (best hair award).
